Terms & Conditions

GoTourNZ refers to Adventure New Zealand Motorcycle Tours and Rentals Ltd, trading as GoTourNZ.com, and its employees, agents, and contractors.

Hirer is the named person on the Booking Form, and is the only permitted rider of the Motorcycle. Any passengers who wish to also ride the Motorcycle, are required to fill out a separate Booking Form with their details.

Both Hirers and GoTourNZ agree to be bound solely and exclusively by New Zealand law.

Rider and Licencing Requirements

  1. Hirers should be at least 25 years of age unless by prior consultation, and possess a valid motorcycle rider's licence applicable to the type and capacity of motorcycle hired, and are recommended to have at least 1 year or 5,000 miles of riding experience operating a modern high performance motorcycle
  2. The suitability of the style and model of motorcycle chosen is the responsibilty of the Hirer.
  3. You should bring your own riding equipment, though you can rent riding gear from us at additional cost. Approved helmets are mandatory in New Zealand for both rider and passenger.

Hirer's Obligations

  1. The Hirer shall pay for all petrol and oil used in the Motorcycle during the period of hire. The fuel tank is full on departure - if the bike is not returned with a full fuel tank, your credit card will be debited for a full tankful of fuel.
  2. The Hirer shall ensure that:
    (a) The water in the radiator and battery of the Motorcycle is maintained at the proper level.
    (b) The oil in the Motorcycle is maintained at the proper level.
    (c) The tyres are maintained at their proper pressure.
  3. The Hirer shall ensure that all reasonable care is taken in handling and parking the Motorcycle and that it is left securely locked when not in use
  4. The Hirer shall pay for any tyre/puncture repair, or belt drive breakage.
  5. Hirers and passengers agree to indemnify GoTourNZ from any and all liabilities or claims directly or indirectly related to Motorcycle rental.

GoTourNZ'S Obligations

  1. GoTourNZ shall supply the Motorcycle in a safe and roadworthy condition.
  2. GoTourNZ shall be responsible for all ordinary and extraordinary costs of running the Motorcycle during the term of the hire, except those costs listed above as 'Hirer's Obligations'.
  3. All Motorcycle rentals are subject to availability, with bookings on GoTourNZ Tours having priority over Rentals.

Mechanical Repairs and Accidents

  1. If the Motorcycle is damaged or requires repair or salvage, whether because of an accident or breakdown, the Hirer shall advise GoTourNZ of the full circumstances by telephone as soon as practicable.
  2. The Hirer shall not arrange or undertake any repairs or salvage without the authority of GoTourNZ, except to the extent that the repairs or salvage are necessary to prevent further damage to the Motorcycle or to other property.
  3. The Hirer shall ensure that no person shall interfere with the distance recorder or speedometer, or, except in an emergency, any part of the engine, transmission, braking, or suspension systems of the Motorcycle.

Use of the Motorcycle

  1. The Hirer shall not use or permit the Motorcycle to be used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward unless the Motorcycle is hired with the knowledge of the GoTourNZ for use in a passenger service licensed under Part 1 of the Transport Services Licensing Act 1989.
  2. The Hirer shall not
    (a) Sublet or hire the Motorcycle to any other person.
    (b) Permit the Motorcycle to be operated outside his or her authority;
    (c) Operate the Motorcycle, or permit it to be operated in circumstances that constitute an offence by the driver again section 58 of the Transport Act 1962 (which related to driving or attempting to drive with excess breath or blood alcohol or under the influence of drink or drug)
    (d) Operate the Motorcycle or permit it to be operated in any race, speed test, rally, or contest.
    (e) Operate the Motorcycle or permit it to be operated in breach of the Transport Act 1962, the Traffic Regulations 1976, or any other Act, regulations, or bylaws relating to road traffic.
    (f) Operate the Motorcycle or permit it to be operated for the transport of more than the number of passengers or more than the weight of goods specified in the certificate of loading for the Motorcycle;
    (g) Drive or permit the Motorcycle to be driven by any person if at the time of his or her driving the Motorcycle the Hirer or other person is not the holder of a current driver's licence appropriate to the Motorcycle.
  3. Hirers must be aware that traffic, road, weather, and other conditions, as well as other motorcyclists, can change the inherent risk of enjoying this sport . Both Hirers and passengers understand and fully accept those risks and are solely responsible for keeping their motorcycle under control, selecting an appropriate speed and adhering to New Zealand laws. As a rider you are solely responsible for your choice of riding style and speed whether accompanied by a guide or riding solo.
  4. The suitability of the style or model of motorcycle chosen is the responsibilty of the Hirer

Immediate Return of the Motorcycle where default or damage

  1. GoTourNZ shall have right to terminate the hiring and take immediate possession of the Motorcycle if the Hirer fails to comply with any of the terms of this agreement, or if the Motorcycle is damaged. The termination of the hiring under the authority of this clause shall be without prejudice to the other rights of GoTourNZ and the rights of the Hirer under this agreement or otherwise.

Insurance

All motorcycles are insured for comprehensive collision insurance with an Excess(Collision Damage Waiver) of NZ$4000.

We STRONGLY recommend Hirers take Travel Insurance when making travel arrangements, particularly to prevent loss of deposits should you be forced to cancel your Rental at the last minute.

Remember - You are responsible for all and any damage to the motorcycle while it is in your care. This could include damage not directly caused by you, for example if you are unlucky enough to hit a piece of debris lying in the road, or a seat being torn up by one of our destructive native parrots, the Kea.

We are VERY proud of the condition of our motorcycles. ANY damage incurred to the motorcycle attributable to you (e.g. paint damage, scratches to paint or windshield etc) will be repaired and deducted from your Excess.

Comprehensive Collision insurance

This insurance for the motorcycle is included in the daily hire rate. It includes:

  • The Hirer and any rider authorised to ride the motorcycle are fully indemnified in respect of any liability for the loss or damage to the motorcycle and its accessories and spare parts, and any consequential loss of revenue or other expenses of the owner including towing and salvage costs associated with the recovery of the motorcycle.
  • The Hirer and any rider authorised to ride the motorcycle are indemnified to the extent of $250,000 for any liability for damage to any property (including injury to any animal) belonging to any person and rising out of the use of the motorcycle.
  • Cover for third party liability, fire, theft, and accident/collision

This insurance excludes:

  • Excess - The first NZ$4000 of any damage to the motorcycle, or loss resulting from damage.

Insurance is void if:

  1. The rider of the motorcycle is under the influence of alcohol or any drug that affects his or her ability to drive the motorcycle.
  2. The motorcycle is in an unsafe or unroadworthy condition that arose during the course of the hire and that caused or contributed to the damage or loss, and the Hirer or rider was aware or ought to have been aware of the unsafe or unroadworthy condition of the motorcycle.
  3. The motorcycle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest.
  4. The motorcycle is operated on any beach and exposed to salt water damage (for example, but not only, 90 Mile Beach, Northland, Oreti Beach, Invercargill).
  5. The motorcycle is riden by any person other than the Hirer (unless they also have filled out a Booking Form for this Rental motorcycle)
  6. The motorcycle is riden by any person who at the time when he or she rides the motorcycle is disqualified from holding or has never held a driver's licence appropriate for that motorcycle.
  7. The motorcycle is wilfully or recklessly damaged by the Hirer, or is lost as a result of the wilful or reckless behaviour of the Hirer.
  8. The motorcycle is operated outside the term of the hire or any agreed extension of that term.

Pickup Locations

Pick up or Drop off bike in Nelson (recommended) or Christchurch or Auckland (conditions apply)

Nelson is our Head Office, and is the main servicing centre for our bikes and our recommended start and finish point for your tour of New Zealand. Why do you think we live here? :-)

Nelson is at the gateway to the South Island's West Coast and is in the heart of some of the best riding in New Zealand. It is our opinion that far too many visitors waste valuable holiday time starting in Auckland or Christchurch.

Apart from starting in a large and busy traffic filled city, and having to cope with new traffic rules and perhaps riding on the correct side of the road :-), both centres are some time and distance from NZ's best motorcycling roads, particularly Auckland.

If you have less than 18 days in New Zealand, we strongly, very strongly in fact, recommend that you confine your trip to the South Island. The South Island is much more rewarding for motorcycle touring. In fact, if you were to rank the most scenic and motorcycle friendly roads to ride in New Zealand, the South Island would occupy the top 20 positions.

If you must...., you can pick-up or drop-off your bike in Auckland or Christchurch, though it will increase the cost of your motorcycle hire package if your duration is less than 14 days.

However, if you're prepared to start and finish in Nelson, we're prepared to subsidise the cost of the rider's airfare to and or from Nelson, depending on the duration of your tour. Please ask about our subsidised air fare to Nelson offer.

For rental periods of less than 15 days, a one way drop-off charge of NZ$390 to drop in Christchurch and NZ$690 to drop-off in Auckland applies.

Please ask for a quotation if you wish to pick up the bike in Auckland or Christchurch.
